Recipe Summary

Yield: Makes six 8-ounce servings

Yield: Makes six 8-ounce servings

Makes six 8-ounce servings

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 pints vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar

Directions

Blend milk and 1 pint ice cream in a blender until smooth. With machine running, add remaining pint ice cream, one scoop at a time; blend until smooth. Pour milkshake into six 8-ounce glasses decorated with chocolate faces, filling them 3/4 full.

Put cream in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. Beat on medium speed until soft peaks form. Add confectioners’ sugar. Beat until stiff peaks form. Transfer whipped cream to a pastry bag fitted with a 1/2-inch plain round tip (such as Ateco #806). Pipe spiral mounds of whipped cream on top of milkshakes. Serve immediately.

Tip:This recipe can be doubled easily. For 12 faces, place 1/3 cup (2 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl; microwave on high until melted, 1 to 1 1/2 minutes; stir. Using a small brush, paint chocolate inside glasses (if it hardens too soon, microwave 20 seconds more). Let set a few minutes before adding shake. Prepare glasses up to a day ahead, but don’t fill until ready to serve.

You could also turn these into evil trolls, by adding chocolate whip cream on the top, as a hat.

This is the cutest idea! We are not having a party so baking a whole cake or cookies is not practical - I'll be making these for my husband and I and our inlaws to enjoy with some popcorn and a scary movie or two!

I agree it's very creative and yummy, but also not to hard. What you can do for the faces it chill the glass in the fridge for a couple hours or 1 day then at publix near the bakery area they sell freeze in a second chocolate syrup so what you can do is buy that then pour in the glass and it hardens so then it doesn't smear.

you can paint the faces on the outside ofplastic glasses but it takes away from the fun that they kids have trying to get the chocolate and it does give the shake a little chocolate taste when they try to scrape the faces.

Hey Bridget, I would just melt some chocolate and a little cream (ganache) and stir till it's the right consistency to paint. Then put the glasses in the fridge till you serve. Haven't tried it, but I think it would work.

Bridgetwilkie all you have to do is melt any kind of chocolate that you like in a micro or over boiling water, use a small artist brush and paint the inside of the glass. I used glasses with wide openings and it is a lot easier to paint.

These are awesome. You can use cool whip or Redi Whip in place of the heavy ceam and confectioners sugar.
