Yield: Makes 9

Makes 9

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 9 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12 cups (2 1/2 bags) miniature marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 6 cups Cap’n Crunch cereal
  • 6 cups Froot Loops cereal
  • Vegetable-oil cooking spray

Directions

Lightly spray a 9-by-9-by-2-inch baking pan with vegetable-oil cooking spray; set aside. Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add salt and marshmallows; stir with a wooden spoon until melted. Remove from heat. Add Rice Krispies, Cap’n Crunch, and Froot Loops, and stir until combined.

Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan. To prevent sticking, coat your hands with vegetable spray, and press the mixture evenly into the pan. Let cool, about 30 minutes.

Cut into 3-by-3-inch bars. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

The only thing is that I have to double or triple the recipe in order to make enough to give away! I also grease my hands to help press the mixture in well, it's not as good if it isn't dense.

I really like how different kinds of cereal are incorporated. I often wonder what to do with leftover cereal and now I have my answer!

I made this recipe following exact directions, except I used store brand fruit puff/balls instead of Froot Loops and it turned out great! You can definitely squeeze it all into the small pan but it takes a LONG time--go bigger! And add any other cereal! You can probably use whatever cereals you have around the house ( + Rice Krispies).

I like the idea of mixing the cereal, but the pan size seems way off. I can't imagine trying to fit 18 cups of cereal into one 9x9" pan.

instead of squares, I shape them with my hands into chicken leg shapes, the smear peanut butter on them and roll into chocolate cereal (the kind that looks like corn flakes) and the look much like fried chicken legs, but taste like Reese's pernut butter cups

I actually love this recipe. No it's not sophisticated, but people are really impressed by it. I don't use the Captain Crunch, just Froot Loops and double the Krispies (or generic equivalents.) If you force them into the 9x9, they make a very hefty, solid treat like you might buy at some bakeries. Of course a whole serving this size is too much for a child, but adults love them. They're a huge hit at bake sales or grown-ups' picnics.

I saw her make this on a segment on Whatever Martha with her daughter. It does all fit in a 9x9 pan but it is really smushed down. Like everyone else I use a 9x13 and still had some left over. Tasted great, yeah lots os sugar but if it's only once in a while I think that is just fine.

I just tried these with my kids and they are yummy. There is too much mixture though for a 9x9 pan. Luckily I had read the other comments and decided to go with a 9x13 pan. Even with firmly pressing the mix into the pan, it reached the top. Next time I will halve the recipe and use the 9x9 pan so the mixture will be easier to stir.

I dont think these would make a good after school snack, so much sugar. Give the kids some protein first, cheese, glass of milk but not this kind of snack. Of course the kids would prefer these first. They look kind of dry to me.

wow...so long since I've seen these treats. I grew up *1980s* in a very poor welfare scenario and this is what happened to our rice crispy squares when there was not enough cereal to make them properly. My mother will be so happy to know that we weren't poor....we were gourmet.

I'm glad to hear people couldn't fit this in a 9X9 pan. If it only would serve 9, as the recipe suggests, it is over 2 cups of cereal and over one cup of marshmallows per serving. Too much!
