Directions

Mix together some of the royal icing with the flesh-tone food coloring until desired shade is reached. Transfer to a small squirt bottle. It would be soooooo nice not to have to click three times to get the recipe to print or to look at the ingredients in the recipe. What a waste of time!

to nbabich: you might have mixed the dough too much. stop mixing as soon as the flour looks mixed in; even a little undermixed Finish with your hands or spatula when you form the rounds before refrigerating.

Just finished making the cookies. The decorations/icing looks great, however I'm not too thrilled about the cookie itself. I'm new to baking. The cookie was tough. Any suggestions? My cat knocked one cookie on the floor and it broke into pieces.

Folks, the santa cutters are definately at macy's, but they have been hard to find. I live in Chicago, and the store at old orchard in skokie had only noah's arch and alphabet cutters. I do, however, work downtown, so I went to the state street store today and found a bunch of the santa cutters. They are in a set of 6, sticker price is 9.99 but they are on sale at 50% off. I only paid a little over $5 with tax. My advice for the person who lives far----try using the store locator on their website to find the number for the state street store and see if they will ship a set to you. The sku # is 2308-1463 "holiday cookie cutter set". If not, shoot me an email at ktdolphin74@gmail.com and I'll see how I can help u.

These cookies are so cute that i felt bad for eating them. I couldn't find the cookie cutter anywhere, so I had to make do, and just trace the paper template onto the dough with a knife. it's easy but you have to make sure the dough is COLD or else it looks like crap

I just bought a set of rolling pin bands at KingArthurFlour.com They are the best tool when rolling dough of any kind to a specific thickness. Used them when I made my gingerbread house and they worked like a charm.

The cookie cutters are available at Macy's stores in the Martha Stewart Collection area, at least that is the only place I have seen them! They come in a box of 5-6 Christmas/holiday themed cookie cutters and if your local Macy's doesn't have anymore, maybe you could ask them to check another store to see if they are carrying it.

You may want to try making a funnel out of wax paper to fill the bottles, or put the icing into a plastic bag, snip the corner and squeeze into the bottle. Just a suggestion.
